There was a party in the local park; food-stands, music, a movie. We picnicked there with family and friends. And a firetruck came!

Did I say music? I mean Vancouver’s Carnival Band, ubiquitous at any sort of public event; they’re fun to listen to and look at, too.

It was a fine event, kids charged everywhere while grownups relaxed on lawn-chairs, and we felt OK about bailing at sunset and skipping The Lego Movie. There are a lot of things to like about Vancouver.

At many public events, the Fire Department rolls up, mostly to entertain the kids. Well, and me, I just love taking pictures of the trucks.

They were good at entertaining the kids, too; a couple of friendly fire-guys seemed to enjoy answering the same questions endlessly and letting them try on helmets and so on.

I tried to take a picture of the crowd and failed, but this captures a bit of the feeling.
