The rose is a Mme. Alfred Carrière, the gryphon is just a garden ornament.

Mme. Alfred Carrière blossom on a grypon pedestal

We used to have two gryphons, they greeted visitors at the base of the front steps, but one cracked on a cold winter’s night. Now the lone gryphon is on the back patio and we haven’t really figured yet what it should support; for the moment it’s a good place to park a rose.

For camera geeks: The mighty Pentax 40mm Limited pancake prime strikes again.
