That would be Hiawatha Bray, who’s been writing about computers and software in the Boston Globe for years and years, as long as I’ve been in the business. At least one conspiracy theorist pointed out that Hiawatha and I had never been seen in the same place at the same time; maybe there’s just one of us? Well, now we have been.

Hiawatha Bray and Tim Bray

We’d arranged to meet at a Boston café; his message said “I’ll be the black guy in a trench-coat.” Sure enough, there was one of those sitting near the front when we arrived, so I bounced up to him and said brightly “Are you Hiawatha?” He wasn’t, and boy, did he ever give me the weirdest look.

Anyhow, the other Mr. Bray used to blog but gave it up but says he thinks he will again, and I’m looking forward to his coverage of the Massachusetts/ODF story, which is getting political; while David Berlind’s been doing a great job, there’s room for lots more good old-fashioned reporting.
