Since the friends down here knew we’d be visiting in February, Sally left her tree up and cooked everyone fabulous Aussie-style Christmas dinner (on the barbecue, of course).

To give that Downunder Christmas feel, a snap of some small blooms in the front garden, nestled in lavender.

Did I mention the main course (a vast pork roast) was barbecued? Do not foolishly conclude that the tone was anything but high... as witness another of the meal’s star performers, a 23-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon. It was excellent and then some.

That pink glow behind the wine-bottle is Sally’s centrepiece, with flowers from her garden. Worth enlarging.

The kids had their own table; Sally put some Christmas tinsel down the middle and told them to go out in the garden, pick flowers, and make their own centrepiece; I think it came out pretty well.

And the best of two month ago’s season to all of you.
