Alex Waterhouse-Hayward, I mean, a very fine photographer here in Vancouver, a nontechnical guy who’s been using the blogspot-FTP-on-his-own-domain thing for years of productive beautifully-written and lavishly-illustrated blogs. Blogger’s shutting down that particular path to the Web, and it’s not obvious what Alex should do. This is an appeal for someone to chip in a little help.

If I were going to do it, and had more expertise, I’d set him up with a WordPress template that duplicates his look-and-feel, and put him on some hosting site or other. Unfortunately, I don’t know from WordPress templating and I don’t the vaguest idea how you’d rescue his inventory of back blog posts from Blogger.

I suspect Alex isn’t in a position to pay lavishly, but his blog is important to him and I suspect it’s become important to a lot of others as well. If you think you know what Alex should do, drop him a line (his address is there on the site. A picture Alex may be found here.
