Belts with rotary phone dials

These are leather belts, for sale in “Life of Riley,” a drop-dead cool boutique a friend of mine owns. It’s on Vancouver’s Main Street, which is currently morphing into an urban-fashion magnet. The dials really turn, too.

I was editing the pictures and the kid wandered by and pointed out “Daddy, those have numbers on them.” I started to explain, but it was kind of difficult to conjure up a reason why a telephone would have this kind of baroque extrusion.
